Albert Park Residence
Here we had a young, growing family with clear brief for a minimally inclined, contemporary interior.
White joinery was introduced to sit cleanly with the subtle liveliness of large terrazzo tiles and thick, grey slab concrete benchtops create an assured solidity suited to a working kitchen. An adjacent sitting area was created to take full advantage of stunning bay views. A hefty concrete bench seat – or long, low shelf – visually anchors the zone, while its smooth texture and light colour keeps things refined and relaxed.
Though a relatively recent build, reclaiming a central recessed balcony and creating a dining area was a smart play to open up an airy kitchen–living space. A timber dining table speaks to the American Oak joinery of the large island kitchen bench on one side, as does the cluster of hand-blown glass lights with their black fittings to the kitchen’s purposeful can lights. The warmth of timber transitions into dark custom bookshelves and storage in the living area.
The cool, monochromatic palette is styled with striking, slightly masculine furniture, but the final layer offsets that fundamental theme with subdued oceanic tones. Steely blues and flecks of violet and green in artwork and furnishings soften and make welcoming a beautiful family home.
