The Upstyler
This luxury consignment store offers pre-loved goods in an environment fit for their high-end provenance. Rich, lavish materiality reflects the calibre of workmanship and original design so revered by its owners and clientele. Like a vintage Cartier onyx and malachite ring, black steel, bronze and dark grey walls combine with sumptuous velvet and green marble to create an evocative, exotic refinement.
Like admiring ever-changing artworks in a gallery, the shopping experience begins with perusing the offerings on display. Lit by LED strip-lighting and underpinned by the lush textural grains in marble components and timber flooring, the space exudes a dramatic flair to match the theatre of runway fashion. The Upstyler required custom-designed shelving arrangements perfectly tailored to its one-off items, as well as its discerning customers’ expectations.
The ‘handbag wall’ has full-height steel doors and steel and bronze glass shelves. The cabinetry is compartmentalised by irregular boxes to disrupt predictable standard shelving, and is set into the wall to convey an attractive allure. Free-standing plinths and cabinets are repeated throughout the space at mixed heights to create delineation and visual interest; the cabinetry opposite the handbag wall is stepped to instil a balance, ensuring nothing looms too high overhead in a relatively narrow space.
Harrison Interiors delivered the entire fit-out from town planning and architecture to the interior design.
